Enrollment at Virtual Schoolhouse
Enrollment in the Virtual Schoolhouse is open on a space available basis to students who are eligible for grades K–12 and live within the State of Ohio. Preference will be given during a lottery process to students who meet the “at risk” definition. “At risk” refers to students who are facing academic challenges which include, but are not limited to: experiencing a terminal or chronic illness oneself, as a sibling or with a parent; experiencing a mental health issue; and/or experiencing a behavioral, emotional or learning disability.
Selection and Open Enrollment
If a lottery is necessary, it shall take place at the administrative offices. All parents will have the opportunity to be present during the lottery selection process, and will be notified at least seven days in advance of the date, time, and location of the lottery. All parents of children who are selected in the lottery will be notified of the selection within seven days of the lottery. Parents will have seven days to contact the school regarding their decision to enroll their children in the Virtual Schoolhouse. If a parent does not respond within seven days of notification, the school will select another child from the lottery in the order that the child’s name was drawn. A waiting list will be formed based upon the order in which the applicants’ names were drawn in the lottery. Open enrollment for Virtual Schoolhouse will be held March 1 through March 31 each year. If the number of applications received during the open enrollment period exceeds the maximum limit, then a lottery will be conducted from among all the applicants.
